The Role of Authenticity in Content Creation
Finally! Let’s begin to uncover the specific trends used to boost online engagement with our audience. Today, we kick it off with the rising importance of creating authentic content.
Authenticity

Social media continues to be a place where people don’t show their true colours. Being fake on social media isn’t anything new but now it’s going from being ‘old’ to simply damaging as a part for a personal brand. It’s more effective to be yourself as opposed to putting up a facade. Why? Because viewers are getting smarter and more aware of someone’s authenticity.
More than ever, creators are responding with authenticity as a method to differentiate and create trust with their audience. Here are some examples that you can use to take advantage of this trend.
Talk about your failures, struggles, ugly truths. Not ONLY your successes, high points, etc.
Tell people why you are doing what you are doing. Be honest with your mission. Talk about your goals and desires.
Practice being the true version yourself on camera. Don’t rely on scripts or force certain emotions or enthusiasm. Speak deeply from the mind and heart instead.
Use anecdotal elements. Look at how you can use your life as an example. Tell people stories (letter on this soon). Connect lessons with —> experiences.
If there’s one thing I need you to remember, be transparent with your audience. You will inspire personal brand loyalty and stand out from the crowd of people that aren’t being authentic. Here are a couple of examples of authentic creators.
This fellow Deep Dive reader has established a powerful style of creating value content for their audience. YogaWithKimmy shares poems, insights and other forms of personal content which are effective at creating a connection with the audience. The style of just getting in front of the camera and speaking your mind can be scary, but it’s just about as authentic as delivery gets.
Another popular creator which inspires trust through transparency is Tom Noske. He leaves his audience feeling connected, moved and builds trust by delivering deep personal truths and insights. He keeps things very simple with a single camera angle and style of delivery. Tom often delivers motivational truths, attacks stereotypes and speaks on the hardships of success that most won’t reveal.
